Corpo castanho com pontuações claras, brancas ou amarelas. Pé relativamente alto e ampla pluma branquial. Possui uma crista distintiva que vai de entre os rinóforos até às brânquias e estendendo-se para a ponta do pé. Alimenta-se de ascídeas coloniais, nomeadamente Botrylloides leachi, onde frequentemente se encontra. O epíteto específico - castanea - é uma alusão à cor do corpo.

Brown body with light yellow or white spots. The foot is relatively tall and the branchial plume is very wide. There's a distinctive median ridge from between the rhinophores to the branchia and extending to the rear end of the foot. Feeds on colonial ascideans, namely Botrylloides leachi where it is often found. The specific epithet - castanea - alludes to the body colour ("chestnut").
